· Romantic of the week
Lovelorn Ian Johnstone travelled 11,000 miles from Australia to Yorkshire to propose to his girlfriend Amy Dolby, only to discover that she was in Sydney on a surprise visit to see him. The couple discovered that they had even made stopovers in Singapore at the same time. Amy, a 26 year old legal secretary , said. "I was shaking like a leaf when I got to his apartment. I knocked and one of Ian's flatmates answered. When I told him I told him I'd come to see Ian, he went white.

· Drunkard of the week
A man who pulled a gun on bar staff was forced to flee when his false arm ------the one holding the gun------fell to the floor. The gunman had threatened the staff in El Paso, Texas, when they refused to serve him because he was too drunk.

· Mystery of the week
Staff at a safari park were on the verge of calling police to investigate a series of silent telephone calls ---until they found that the caller was one of their chimpanzees. Chippy the chimp stole a mobile phone from a keeper at Blair Drummond safari park, near Stirling. Gary Gilmore, the phone's owner, said: "It's been driving us bananas. He must have been hitting the redial button and then going through my phone book. It was pure fluke, but people have been jumping out of bed thinking that there was an emergency at the park."

· Breath of fresh air
A new watering hole is doing its bit to relieve the grouchiness for which Paris is famed. Lunch at the No Stress Café comes with a relaxing shiatsu massage -and the "lightly euphoric" sensation of inhaling pure oxygen is available for a further £8. But some customers are still complaining: it is not available on the national health.
There's no pleasing some people is there?????
