On
this week's programme we gave you some everyday English expressions,
which can be helpful in modifying or organising what you are saying.
These expressions are not difficult to understand, but they are
FIXED, which means they have to be learnt as whole expressions.
If you incorporate then into your everyday speech you will notice
that your English becomes more fluid. So here are the expressions
we talked about today.
Expression
§ As I was saying, I haven't seen Jo for months
Function
It takes the conversation back to an earlier point
Expression
§ As I (you/he/she/they) say, we'll have to leave early
if we want a seat.
Function
It repeats and confirms something someone has already said
Expression
§ Talking of famous people, have you heard the latest
about Jennifer Lopez?
Function
Starts a new topic but links it to the present one
Expression
§ If you ask me, she should ask for a raise.
Function
Allows you to give your opinion, even if no-one has asked for
it
Expression
§ That reminds me, I have to make an appointment for
the dentist.
Function
To say that something in the conversation reminds you of something
important
Expression

number
